|SurModics Looks Like A Sick Stock|
Added: 10.12.2013 19:44 | 0 views | 0 comments
SurModics (SRDX) is a leading provider of surface modification technologies in the areas of biocompatibility, site specific drug delivery, biological cell encapsulation, and medical diagnostics. SurModics partners with the world's foremost medical device, pharmaceutical and life science companies to bring innovation together for better patient outcomes. Recent collaborative efforts include the implementation of SurModics' Bravo drug delivery polymer matrix as a key component of the first-to-market drug-eluting coronary stent. SurModics is also active in the ophthalmology market with a sustained drug delivery system that is currently in human trials for treatment of retinal disease. A significant portion of SurModics' revenue is generated by royalties earned from the sale of customers' commercial products. Why the Strong Sell? Fourth quarter fiscal year 2013 results were mixed, with weaker forward guidance the main catalyst for analysts to cut estimates and push the stock to a #5. For fiscal 2013, SurModics reported earnings of 85 cents per share, 29% higher than last year, but short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2 cents. Though SurModics reported higher-than-expected earnings in the final quarter of fiscal 2013 due to cost savings, overall revenues in fiscal 2013 climbed only 8% to $56.1 million primarily on the back of impressive hydrophilic coating royalty revenues. Revenues fell short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $57 million. SurModics expects fiscal 2014 revenues in the range of $58-$62 million. Earnings are expected in the range of 80 cents-92 cents per share. The consensus prior to this announcement was 95 cents per share on revenues of $63 million for fiscal 2014. Since then, the consensus has slipped to 88 cents. Since royalties are a major source of revenues at SurModics, any royalty-related setback like the discontinuation of a (JNJ - Analyst Report) stent partnership could affect the top line significantly. Be sure to use the Zacks Rank for SurModics to let you know when the coast is clear and analysts are positive again on the company's earnings growth potential. Stepping off the set of "Parks and Recreation," magazine.
The 42-year-old actress looked picture perfect in Louis Vuitton and Stella McCartney for the Walt Chin-shot front page while opening up about her most memorable moments on "Saturday Night Live" and her true feelings on social media.
Highlights from Miss Poehler's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to !
"I remember a Christmas show with Elijah Wood and the band was, oh shit... an Australian group that you can look up. So you say goodnight onstage, and then you run really fast, and put ice skates on, and you get to ice skate at Rockefeller Center. And that was the first time I ever: 1) skated at Rockefeller Center, and 2) skated along with 10 other people that were my friends. It was snowing, it was Christmas and the day before, we all got to go to the The Lord of the Rings premiere. I was a big fan of the films. And I remember thinking, 'Oh, this is totally awesome.' SNL's like a factory, and you try to get your sausage made in time. Everyone's experience there is so personal and subjective and different. I kinda came at a time when the women were really crushing it. And I had a lot of friendly faces supporting and helping me."
On ending "Parks and Recreations":
"I dig shows where all the characters don't talk like the 28-year-old writer in the room. Like, there was never a moment in All in the Family where Archie was aware of what an idiot he was, and wink-winked it, and said, 'OMG.' I think I know how the show ends. To some extent, with the exception of one or two seasons, we never really know if we're coming back. I know how this season ends -- it could be an ending for the show, or it could be an ending for the season."
On avoiding social media:
"I'm not a real social-media person. I'm not on Twitter. I try not to read too much online because I always get my feelings hurt, even if someone's flattering you. Like somebody tweeting, 'Call me crazy, but I think Amy Poehler's attractive.' And you're like, 'OK? Thank you?' Or like someone writing, 'I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I'd have sex with Amy Poehler.' The amount of Instagram selfies seems crazy out-of-control. The idea of, 'This is my face and everyone needs to see it all the time,' is so far from the privacy that people used to seek. Now everyone acts the way '80s performance artists used to act. Everybody's Karen Finley. Everybody's like, 'This is my vagina! I'm gonna put s*** all over me and take pictures!' When I was a kid, you'd go to a party or a punk rock show and you'd have fun, and you'd bring a camera, and you'd take pictures, and those pictures would stay inside the camera. Pictures were an addition to the experience. Now the picture is the experience. If I'm hanging out with a friend, and they take a picture of me, it's like 'Ugh.' I mean, I hate looking at pictures of myself. It immediately takes me out of the experience."

|NBC to Follow “Sound of Music Live” Success with Another Live Musical! |
Added: 10.12.2013 19:00 | 1 views | 0 comments
It was a risky move to try and pull off a live version of the classic “The Sound of Music,” but NBC’s moxy ended up paying off big time.
With 18.6 million viewers, last week’s event also sparked half-a-million tweets, though lead star was largely panned for a flat acting performance.
Still, NBC has already announced they’ll develop another live holiday musical project for 2014, with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron sorting through potential ideas.
The leading candidate is said to be “Peter Pan,” though NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt hasn’t made any final decisions. He told press, "All weekend, people have been calling us and e-mailing us. Rights holders of musicals have said, 'Please do one of our shows.' We're excited to try it again."
