Indonesia raised the flight warnings to their highest levels on Monday near the Mount Singabung volcano which erupted and sent a plume of ash more than 7 kilometers (4.4 miles) into the air, according to The Guardian. The blast of ash suddenly changed day into night for locals which spread out from the crater of the volcano, 1,900 km northwest of the capital city of Jakarta, even though the areas around the crater on the island of Sumatra have been off-limits for decades due to continuous volcanic activity.
